The Beacon - Rod Lathim
“The Beacon”
Vintage streetlamp globe, neon, vintage bannister, vintage fence elements
76” T x 29” W x 29” D
The Beacon rises as a transformation of purpose and belief. Once designed to cast a single white light, the lamp now holds a gathering of colors—distinct, interwoven, and luminous together. Within the softened globe, difference is not erased, but honored; illumination is no longer uniform, but shared.
Emerging from a fractured foundation marked by erosion and neglect, the work carries the remnants of old structures—systems once built to divide, protect, or control. Here, they are reimagined as witnesses rather than enforcers, participating in an act of collective ascent.
This sculpture is both sacred and civic in spirit. It offers a vision of harmony born not from sameness, but from presence—where many voices contribute to a single glow. The Beacon stands as a quiet affirmation that resilience is found in inclusion, and that a more compassionate order can emerge when we choose to stand together in our differences.
